Led Zeppelin History – Aug 7

Today in 1970 Jimmy Page finished mixing the Led Zeppelin III album, at Ardent Studios in Memphis, during the band’s 6th U.S. Tour. The recording engineers were Terry Manning (whom Page had known since his Yardbirds days) and Andy Johns (brother of renowned sound engineer Glyn Johns). The album would be released on October 5th of that year, with advance orders of 700,000 copies in the U.S. alone. It was certified Gold by the RIAA only five days later…

Also today, in 1971, Led Zeppelin played the Montreux Casino in Switzerland as a prep for their upcoming North American tour. This is the same casino that would burn down 4 months later and become immortalized in Deep Purple’s song “Smoke on the Water”.
