Led Zeppelin History – May 7

By 1976 Led Zeppelin’s popularity in the U.S. was so high that even politicians were claiming to be fans; that year both presidential campaigns appeared to endorse Led Zeppelin.

On this date in 1976 President Gerald Ford’s daughter Susan proclaimed on The Dick Cavett Show that Led Zeppelin was her favorite band. Later, Jimmy Carter, speaking at a National Association of Record Manufacturers convention, reminisced about listening to Zeppelin records during all-night sessions when he was governor of Georgia. Whether all this was truthful or not, who knows.
