Led Zeppelin History – May 25

Today in 1969 Zeppelin played a rare double-bill with The Who at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD. This was the only time they ever appeared together. It featured Whole Lotta Love being played live for only the second time ever. It was a very different version, with a long guitar solo in the middle.  Side note: “Led” was misspelled as “Lead” on the tickets…

A comment about that evening comes from one of the Who’s crew: “I had the unenviable task of throwing Zeppelin off the stage,” recalled Jeff Wolff. “They were playing over time, stringin’ it out, and there was a curfew, so I was saying, “I’ve got to get you off!” I had to pull the plug on them, otherwise we were never going to go on!”
