Today in 1977 Led Zeppelin abandoned a show in the rain at Tampa Stadium after only 3 songs (The Song Remains The Same, The Rover/Sick Again, Nobody’s Fault But Mine) when rain water flooded onto the stage, causing an electrocution hazard. A proposed replacement date for the next day was cancelled by authorities when disappointed fans rioted at the truncated show, injuring 100 fans and a dozen police officers.
The promoters, Concerts West, later ran a full page newspaper ad, apologizing to Led Zeppelin and fans for the turn of events. It read:
Concerts West Apologizes and is sorry for the humiliation & inconvenience to you and your faithful fans at Tampa Stadium, June 3, 1977. You did everything that you could and wanted to do so much more. You are the best and deserve the best, not the worst treatment. -Respectfully, Concerts West.
