Led Zeppelin History – June 4

Today in 1979 box offices around the UK opened for Zeppelin’s planned August 11th show at Knebworth Park. Aside from two small Copenhagen “warm-up” shows in July 1979, this would be Led Zeppelin’s first concert appearance anywhere in over two years. Promoter Freddie Bannister reported the demand to be “the most incredible in my experience”. Names still being touted at the time as possible supporting acts included Dire Straits, Fairport Convention, Joni Mitchell, Little Feat, Bob Seger, Van Morrison, The Boomtown Rats, B.B. King, Aerosmith, and the Marshall Tucker Band.
